Dunrobin Castle - Scotland, Winter { 17 images } Created 17 Aug 2017
Dunrobin Castle gardens were laid out in 1850 by the architect Sir Charles Barry, the man who designed the Victorian extension to the Castle itself, but is best known for designing the Houses of Parliament in London. It is inspired by the Palace of Versailles in Paris with an arrangement into two parterres both laid out around circular pools with fountains. They have changed little in the 150 years since they were planted and despite its location in the north of Scotland, the gardens are sheltered and can support a surprising range of plants.
